At MOM 2015, the genre of Viking metal will be represented by the Faroe Islands band TÝR. The band has grouped up in 1998, taking up the name of the most fearless Viking god of war and justice. For the most part, TÝR have become very popular for their authenticity – there is no other band that sticks to Viking traditions in their music and lyrics as closely as they do. After their debut album, TÝR have played countless gigs, before they finally caught the attention of the record label Napalm Records in 2006. The band’s definitive sound was set by the album Ragnarok, which came out in the same year, unleashing the band on the entire world. TÝR were given opportunities to show up at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, 70000 Tons of Metal, the Ragnarok Festival, and to join the Paganfest tour (alongside Ensiferum) and Black Sails over Europe (with Alestorm). Over time, TÝR’s popularity grew and they’ve set off on a tour of their own across Europe as well as the USA, and many of their songs have become anthems in the sphere of pagan metal. The latest, seventh record, is Valkyrja. This concept album tells the story of a man who left his wife to become a warrior, so that once he dies, he would get to Valhalla (something like heaven) and meet the goddess Freyja. Among others, the record featured a guest appearance by Liv Kristine (Leaves’ Eyes), and Valkyrja was superbly well received by fans and critics alike. Join us in looking forward to seeing TÝR and their true Viking metal this summer at Made of Metal 2015!
